Campaign for National Parks secures key funding
Campaign for National Parks is delighted that a bid for five years of funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has been successfully granted.
This funding of £250,000 means that our policy and campaigning work will continue at an important time for the future of National Parks. We will also be able to ramp up our engagement work with young people and underrepresented communities.
Chief Executive Dr Rose O’Neill says ‘We are delighted that the Foundation recognises the importance of our work with this multi-year funding. Our National Parks and AONBs need stronger laws, policies and plans that deliver for nature, climate and equality right now. With this in place, we can now move forward with confidence to campaign for change.’
South Downs National Park
A unique position as the voice for National Parks
Campaign for National Parks is the only independent charity dedicated to securing the future of National Parks in England and Wales. Our first campaign resulted in the creation of the first National Parks in England and Wales more than 70 years ago, and now there are 13 National Parks: from the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Lake District to the meadows of the South Downs and the wild uplands of Dartmoor and Exmoor.
As we look to the future, we campaign in support and solidarity for all Protected Landscapes, driving positive change for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) as well as National Parks. At Campaign for National Parks we are fully independent which means we can influence at the highest levels, say the unsayable and amplify the unheard.
We bring together a campaigning collective of organisations and individuals from all walks of life and ages, all National Park Societies and beyond, united in common cause to enhance these amazing landscapes for nature, for climate, for everyone.

The Foundation is one of the largest independent grant-makers in the UK. In 2021, we provided £51.6m in grant funding towards a wide range of work in support of our aims. We also have a £45 million allocation to social investments for organisations with the aim of creating social impact.
