Mosaic Champions win New Discoverer Award!
Fazielat and Shamshad Iqbal have been presented the New Discoverers Award by the Northumberland National Park Authority, Both Fazielat and Shamshad have been involved in encouraging young Asian women from the the Angelou Centre in Newcastle to the National Park since 2002.
Fazielat is co-opted to the Volunteer Rangers Committee to help steer some of their work to include disadvantaged groups and Shamshad represents Northumberland BME Community Champions on the National Mosaic Network Group which sprang from the Campaign for National Parks’ last National Mosaic project.
Fazielat and Shamshad are great friends of the National Park, and have given their time and commitment generously to introduce people to the countryside who might never have known that it is there for everyone to enjoy.
They collected their award at the Northumberland National Park Forum at Kirkley Hall, The Awards were established to recognise and reward the efforts of individuals, businesses and community groups who are helping the National Park Authority and its partners to achieve the aims of the National Park Management Plan 2009-2014. These are to be a Welcoming Park, a Distinctive Place and a Living-Working Landscape with Thriving Communities
