Threat to affordable housing in National Parks
We’ve recently argued that National Parks should be exempt from Government proposals which could significantly reduce the number of new affordable homes provided in rural areas.
At the moment most such housing is provided as part of agreements when house-builders are granted planning permission for new developments and National Park Authorities have a strong track record of delivering affordable housing as part of small scale schemes. Now this successful approach is under threat as the Government is proposing that developments of fewer than 10 houses should be exempt from these agreements and most new housing developments in National Parks are much smaller than this.
